Where are we?

Le Helleguy is situated in south central Brittany, in the department of Morbihan (56).

The hamlet, Le Helleguy, lies on the D159 and is approximately 3km NE of the village Quistinic, which is 12km NW of Baud, lying just north of the main East-West roadway, the route N24, between Lorient and Rennes.

We have created a set of detailed directions from the nearest ferry ports of Northern France and the airports within Brittany. For a quick link to the directions you require, click on the appropriate link below:



From St. Malo ferry terminal or Dinard airport:

For the short scenic route, follow the instructions below. For a main route via dual carriageway, follow signs for the N164 to Rennes and then follow the Directions from Rennes below.

  • From the ferry terminal, follow signs to Dinan on the N137, joining the N12 dual carriageway towards Dinan

  • From the airport, join the D766 towards Dinan and join the N12 dual carriageway towards Dinan

From the N12 at Dinan:

  • After passing Dinan, take the exit off the N12 on to the D766 to Caulnes
  • Take the D166, bypassing St Méen-le-Grand, on to Mauron towards Ploermel
  • After Mauron, take the D16 to Guillers, St. Malo-des-trois-fontaines towards Josselin
  • Turn on to the N24 in the direction of Lorient
  • Remain on the N24, following the signs to Lorient until you reach Baud
  • Pass the exits for ‘Baud est’ and ‘Baud centre’ taking the third exit for ‘Gare de Baud’
  • Turn right from the slip road and take the first right again (about 100 metres) towards Quistinic and Bubry
  • Cross the river and ascend a hill to a crossroads
  • Turn left, on to the D3 towards Bubry
  • After about 7 km, having passed a tall water tower on your right, you will enter the small hamlet of Keramour and a cross roads with the D159. Turn right on to the D159 towards Melrand
  • After about 1 km, descending down a hill and after a series of bends, Le Helleguy will appear on your left just as you reach a junction in the road
    Turn left off the D159 into the sign-posted hamlet of Le Helleguy



From Roscoff ferry terminal:

For the short scenic route, follow the instructions below. For a main route via dual carriageway, follow signs for the D58 to Morlaix, take the N12 to St. Brieuc then follow the directions From St. Brieuc airport below.

  • Take the D58 to Morlaix
  • Take the N12 dual carriageway towards Brest
  • Take the second exit on to the D785 towards Pleyber-Christ and on past Plounéour-Ménez
  • About 3.5 km after Plouneour-Menez, turn left on to the D764.
  • Follow the D764 on to Carhaix-Plouguer
  • Before entering Carhaix-Plouguer, turn right on to the D148 to join the D769 towards Gourin
  • Turn left off the D769 at Gourin onto the D1 and follow this to Guémené -sur-Scorff
  • At Guémené, take the D3 and follow this through Bubry and on in the direction of Baud.
  • About 5 km after Bubry, after passing a small lake on your right, you will enter the small hamlet of Keramour and a cross roads with the D159. Turn left on to the D159 towards Melrand
  • After about 1 km, descending down a hill and after a series of bends, Le Helleguy will appear on your left just as you reach a junction in the road
  • Turn left off the D159 into the sign-posted hamlet of Le Helleguy



From the ferry ports of Cherbourg, Ouistreham (Caen) or Le Havre:



Directions from Rennes (including Rennes airport):

  • Take the N24 towards Lorient & Vannes
  • Remain on the N24, following the signs to Lorient until you reach Baud
  • Pass the exits for ‘Baud est’ and ‘Baud centre’ taking the third exit for ‘Gare de Baud’
  • Turn right from the slip road and take the first right again (about 100 metres) towards Quistinic and Bubry
  • Cross the river and ascend a hill to a crossroads
  • Turn left, on to the D3 towards Bubry
  • After about 7 km, having passed a tall water tower on your right, you will enter the small hamlet of Keramour and a cross roads with the D159. Turn right on to the D159 towards Melrand
  • After about 1 km, descending down a hill and after a series of bends, Le Helleguy will appear on your left just as you reach a junction in the road
  • Turn left off the D159 into the sign-posted hamlet of Le Helleguy



From St. Brieuc airport:

  • From the airport, join the N12 dual carriageway into St, Brieuc
  • Follow signs for the D700 to Loudéac and then the D700/D768 on to Pontivy
  • Enter the centre of Pontivy and follow the signs for the D2 to Le Sourn, Melrand and Bubry (this will involve crossing the river near the centre of Pontivy)
  • Continue about 17km on the D2 through Melrand, towards Bubry
  • Very soon after leaving Melrand turn left on the D159 towards Quistinic*
  • After about 7 km, you will pass an old chateau set back from the road on your left as you ascend a hill
  • After another km, with a gradual descent, you will reach an S bend with two roads leading off, one to the right and the second to the left. Between the two turn-offs is a sign-posted drive to the right leading directly into the hamlet of Le Helleguy
* Please note: The village of Melrand also has an address Le Helleguy – this may be seen approximately 2km after turning on to the D159 from Melrand. This should not be confused with Le Helleguy, Quistinic.



From Brest airport:

For the short scenic route, follow the instructions below. For a main route via dual carriageway, follow signs for the N165 from Brest all the way to Lorient then follow the directions From Lorient airport below.

  • Take the N12 dual carriageway towards Morlaix
  • Take the third exit on to the D770 to Landerneau
  • Leave Landerneau on the D764 towards Sizun
  • Follow the D764, through Sizun and on to Carhaix-Plouguer
  • Before entering Carhaix-Plouguer, turn right on to the D148 to join the D769 towards Gourin
  • Turn left off the D769 at Gourin onto the D1 and follow this to Guémené-sur-Scorff
  • At Guémené, take the D3 and follow this through Bubry and on in the direction of Baud.
  • About 5 km after Bubry, after passing a small lake on your right, you will enter the small hamlet of Keramour and a cross roads with the D159. Turn left on to the D159 towards Melrand
  • After about 1 km, descending down a hill and after a series of bends, Le Helleguy will appear on your left just as you reach a junction in the road
  • Turn left off the D159 into the sign-posted hamlet of Le Helleguy



From Lorient airport:

  • Follow signs for the N165
  • Take the N165 towards Lorient & Vannes
  • Remain on the N165 for about 11km, then follow signs for the N24 to Rennes
  • After about 17km, take the first exit for Baud - ‘Gare de Baud’
  • Turn right from the slip road, cross over the N24 (pass the slipway back on to the N24 to Lorient) and take the first turning right, signposted towards Quistinic and Bubry
  • Cross the river and ascend a hill to a crossroads
  • Turn left, on to the D3 towards Bubry
  • After about 7 km, having passed a tall water tower on your right, you will enter the small hamlet of Keramour and a cross roads with the D159. Turn right on to the D159 towards Melrand
  • After about 1 km, descending down a hill and after a series of bends, Le Helleguy will appear on your left just as you reach a junction in the road
  • Turn left off the D159 into the sign-posted hamlet of Le Helleguy



From Nantes airport:

  • Follow signs for Nantes for 1-2 km
  • Join the Nantes ‘motorway’ ring road towards Rennes, Vannes and Lorient
  • Soon after crossing the Loire river, turn off the ring road at junction 33, following signs for St. Nazaire, Vannes and Lorient
  • After about 4km, the road joins the main E60/N165 motorway towards St. Nazaire, Vannes and Lorient
  • Remain on the N165 all the way to Vannes
  • At Vannes ouest industrial park, turn off the motorway turning right from an elevated roundabout onto the D779 towards Plescop and Grand-Champ
  • Remain on the D779 bypassing Plescop, through Grand-Champ and on to Camors
  • At Camors, turn right onto the D768 towards Baud
  • After descending a long hill from Camors, turn left at the roundabout onto the D724 in the direction of Kergonan and Languidic
  • After about 2km, you cross the N24 motorway. Take the first right (about 100 metres) towards Quistinic and Bubry
  • Cross the river and ascend a hill to a crossroads
  • Turn left, on to the D3 towards Bubry
  • After about 7 km, having passed a tall water tower on your right, you will enter the small hamlet of Keramour and a cross roads with the D159. Turn right on to the D159 towards Melrand
  • After about 1 km, descending down a hill and after a series of bends, Le Helleguy will appear on your left just as you reach a junction in the road
  • Turn left off the D159 into the sign-posted hamlet of Le Helleguy

On entering the driveway to Le Helleguy:

Pass a red-tiled ‘garage’ on your left and park on the left behind it. The owners’ thatched cottage can be accessed through a small blue wooden gate leading to a low arched door at the base of a set of external stairs.
